Roberto Santiago and His Ever-Expanding Manaira Shopping Mall

Roberto Santiago is a Brazilian entrepreneur and the visionary behind the Manaira Shopping mall located in Joao Pessoa, Paraiba, Brazil. The Manaira is a gargantuan shopping mall that overlooks the picturesque beaches of Joao Pessoa. The total area of the building measures a massive 135,000 square meters and it houses more than 280 stores. The Manaira Shopping mall’s main parking garage can fit as much as 3,180 vehicles. The mall’s construction began in 1987, its grand opening took place a couple of years after. Roberto Santiago’s Manaira Shopping mall has little something for everyone; visitors can watch movies in deluxe interactive 3D movie theaters with food service, choose from over 200 different electronic games at the Game Station, play at the famous Gold Strike Bowling alley and let their children have fun running amok at their indoor playground.


The Manaira also has a fully equipped gym and a large food court that attracts thousands of patrons every month. In 2014, the mall expanded its food court and launched a space for gourmet cuisine. Their most popular is the Capital Steak House, it attracts locals and tourists from all over in hopes to taste their five-star cuisine. The Domus Hall is a huge concert hall located on the rooftop of the Manaira. The hall was engineered with great acoustics, it houses a capacity of 8,000 people and is fully air-conditioned. The Domus Hall is one of the largest concert halls in the whole of Paraiba. It features live concerts, orchestras, musicals, receptions, local talent, art exhibitions and many other grand events.


Mr. Santiago was born and raised in Joao Pessoa, Paraiba, Brazil, on July 16, 1958. He enrolled at the Pio X-Marist College and shortly after, he went to the University Center of Joao Pessoa and earned his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. Prior to the founding of the Manaira Shopping mall, he had launched a business called Cartonnage Company that primarily distributed cardboard cartons he had developed and designed. He would sell them to numerous companies throughout the region until he had developed a strong interest in real estate. The Manaira was Roberto Santiago’s very first dream project, his determination and business savvy had turned his dream into a major reality. He had always envisioned his hometown of Joao Pessoa to become a great source for entertainment, wonderful foods and fun attractions that would ultimately create positive economic growth and prosperity for many years to come.
